Wilna Furstenburg!!!!The voting was breathtakingly close – with more than 1,000 votes cast, it literally came down to a difference of 20 votes at best. Jennifer, we all LOVE your work and know we’ll continue to see beautiful things from you. And now – Wilna – you are going to be one very busy woman.

We called Wilna this morning to share with her the great news and her response touched all of us. She said, “I’m totally overwhelmed … [pause] … I know people usually scream and shout … [pause] … but I just cry … [sobbing with joy] …This is amazing!”

She added, “This is just wonderful. You’ve just made my day. I’ve been so overwhelmed with the amazing response from SO many people. I can’t thank you and all of the incredible people who voted for me.”

After she finished crying (well, we’ll be honest, after we ALL finished crying with her), Gail Pierce-Watne got right down to business and gave Wilna her first assignment. She’s been charged with creating a surprising, brand-new look for two of Making Memories’ latest product introductions which will appear in our next book due out in January 2006.

And to all the Making Memories Idol voters – thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This has been a thrilling, exciting, nerve-wracking experience that we’ll not soon forget. In fact – we enjoyed it so much that we know we’ll be doing this again in the not-too-distant future. Thanks to the popularity of this contest, we’ll be hosting our next Making Memories Idol which will wrap around our next book introduction. And with three new books coming out from our publishing team each year, you can expect the competition to be bigger, better, and more exciting than ever!

If you have suggestions on how our next IDOL competition can outwit, outlast, and outplay this one, please let us know in the comments below. Oh – what the heck – why not make it another contest, too!?! We’ll choose three names at random from those of you who leave a comment or suggestion, and the winners will receive all of the Decorate Life books (Scrapbooks, Home Décor and Celebrations. It’s our way of saying THANKS for making this such a successful competition.Wilna – you ROCK girl! Congratulations again!

For the next challenge, can you post the previous layouts/projects? I voted based on my favorite project that was currently posted, but I would have liked to compare to the previous assignments.

Congratulations Wilna! I too would like to view the previous rounds entries. Inspiring stuff!
I have two suggestions, maybe a reminder e-mail to vote during each round (I missed voting and viewing projects yesterday :(
And maybe another round or two especially at the beginning. Like from 1000 to 25 to 15 to 10 to 5, 3 and finally 1. Just a suggestion. I loved the contest and just might enter next time. Great Job MM and idol contestants!!! Heather

I think the contest was great that way it was, but I, too, like the idea of keeping the names anonymous - sometimes you can't help but be biased when you vote if you know who the designer is.

I think making it anonymous might not work. A lot of famous designers are recognizable by their style and people in the photos.

Okay, as for improvements - I'd love to be able to see past assignments - even from those that have been eliminated. I was totally inspired by one of Mindy Bush's layouts and now I can't remember what it looks like. Also, it'd be cool if after we vote there was some kind of bar graph showing what the current tally is. Other than that I think this was a cool contest! ;)

I think this was a FANTASTIC contest and you did a GREAT job sponsoring it. I look forward to seeing the next evolution of MM Idol.  Here are a few of the suggestions that I thought would be an improvement on your SUPER contest.

More time to vote…such as displayed on Friday…have until Monday at midnight to vote.

Love the thought of email notification of challenges posted/projects viewable/voting open.

A special viewable gallery with all the submissions by rounds/challenges left up for the duration of the contest.

More people per rounds…..such as Top 100, 50, 25, 10, 8, 6, 4, Idol

Anonymous Entries WITH STOCK photos (only revealing the designer when the contest is over or the artist has been eliminated.)

I would suggest the following:
Maybe a contest that was more layout focused and using a lot more MM product. Don't get me wrong, the challenges were awesome and the products from the contestants were amazing. I; however, tend to do less altered art and more scrapping so I love to look at layouts more than deco.

The Idol cantest was so fun to vote in and I look forward to more from MM!

As for a suggestion, maybe you could have a celebrity panel of judges like on AI (except without a "Simon"). In the upcoming contests I think it would be nice to see a continuous gallery of each contestants work and as the contestants dwindle down (let's say 3 to 5) spend a day with each to learn exactly what they go through and post it as the "Day in the life of...". Also, I would like to see each contestant be given a challenge of using a specific product...maybe paper, trims, the slot punch tool, etc. and see how they each have a different outcome.

I think your contest is great and next time, I just might enter myself! Thanks and I look forward to more MM!!!

I think that this was a wonderful competition that I would have the guts to enter next time. I think if you posted all the previous entries for each contestant and kept their identity confidential then you wouldn't know them say buy a name if they were popular on a certain website or anything. Maybe you could have each of the twenty finalists think of an "idol" name. Just a suggestion, but I thought it was a great competition. Good luck Wilna.

I Dont think it would make any difference if you kept names anon. Like someone else said they are known by their work and you get an individual feel for each of their art being it so different. In knowing their names you develop an unknow relationship with each person. Ei. That is Jennifers work and that is Wilna's work. I vote for names staying.

Congratulations to BOTH ladies - even though Wilna is the "official" winner, it's obvious Jennifer's talent is incredible also!

The only thing I would change is linking the current assignments to the previous entries...just to see a larger expanse of work. Sometimes you hit an idea head on - and sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you try, conveying the subject is just impossible. (Not that any of us have had to complete projects like that!)

WAY TO GO Wilna! Your humbleness is just awesome and it's been fun reading your comments and seeing how gracious you are.

Jennifer - it's only a matter of time before some smart entity gobbles you up! Your time is coming - we all know it!

With only about 20 votes making a difference, it's clear you BOTH are talented, creative, amazing women who are BOTH blessed with a special gift!
